Maria Fülberth

Growing up at the Lake of Constance I did my Bachelor in Philosophy and Economics at the University of Bayreuth (North Bavaria) and spent one year abroad in Liège (Belgium). With some minor detours away from the university I finally came back home, completed my Master in Philosophy at the University of Constance and started my doctoral studies in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Debus.
My research-interests in Philosophy of Mind developed during the time of my bachelor-thesis. Back then, they where of a more practical orientation, but still I’d say it started there. In the following years I repeatedly came back to philosophy of mind and questions about belief-formation. Writing my master-thesis on self-deception I decided to stay in the field. Currently, I work on  the connection between the mental life and the will. Questions being how can various mental states be influenced by the will, to what extend do we know about our own mental life, and what are the benefits and drawbacks that result from the answers to the first two questions. Furthermore, I explore the assumed analogy between the formation of mental states and the formation of actions. In doing this I touch different elements of doxastic voluntarism, theory of action and epistemology.
Shaping the own mental life has, apart from being a very interesting research topic, always accompanied me in my personal life. How we meet different bits and bumps along the road can differ greatly with different mindsets and perspectives. Looking at how these mindsets can be shaped and developed is intriguing to me in many ways.
